One of the most common therapies our Omaha chiropractors use in office is the intersegmental traction table. Intersegmental traction allows for opening of the joint spaces, particularly the disc spaces in the spine, to improve healing and relax surrounding musculature. The table has rollers that travel up and down your back to provide traction along the entire spine.
Effects of Intersegmental Traction
Intersegmental traction has many beneficial effects, including:
- Increased blood and lymph flow
- Exercises and kneads the muscles, ligaments, and tendons of the back to improve tone
- Stretches muscles of the back
- Decreases fatigue contracture of the spinal muscles
- Promotes gliding of joint surfaces
- Increases joint and disc nutrition
Joints and discs receive their nutrition through movement. Without movement, joints can become restricted and discs dehydrated. By opening the joint spaces through intersegmental traction, joint mobility is improved and they are able to receive nutrients from the body.
Most patients love intersegmental traction and find a lot of relief from this therapy. The therapy is quick and easy to add into a treatment plan. Common conditions our Omaha chiropractors utilize intersegmental traction for include low back pain, neck pain, upper back pain, lumbar radiculopathy, sciatica, cervical radiculopathy, and more!
